Witches Night: Eve of Beltane Ceremony + Feast
EVE OF BELTANE: WITCHES NIGHT (Walpurgis Night)
This isn’t a night of steely, rational restraint.
It’s a time to feel, deeply and with every cell of your body.
April 30th has been deemed Witches Night for centuries.
…a time when witches used to meet in secret to celebrate the thinning of the veil between worlds and the rise in their witchy powers.
In paintings of Walpurgis Night and Beltane, women are often shown dancing round a fire with ecstatic abandon, released from an ever-watchful patriarchal gaze, if only for one night. Burning bonfires traditionally believed to ward off evil spirits.
It’s a time to remember what it feels like to be utterly free within oneself, to come into the fullness of your being, not whittling it down to a societally acceptable sliver.
On this special evening we will couple Walpurgis Night with Beltnane in harmony.
Traditionally the Pagan Irish observed the First of May as the first day of Summer. Today, those who observe the Wheel of the Year celebrate Beltane as the height of Spring! We give thanks for the fertility of our planet and the ability of the Earth to renew herself. We revel in the new growth and general fecundity of the season. As co-creators with the Universe, we witches also like to tap into the energy of Spring to help us bring new life into our own endeavors.
Classically, Beltane is observed on May 1st with a maypole and a bonfire. In the Wiccan tradition, they celebrate the sexual union of the Goddess and the God, an allegory of the Mother Earth impregnated by the seed of the Green Man. Beltane celebrations are often infused with a boisterous and bawdy energy that reflects the fertile energy of the season. The maypole is a phallic symbol of the masculine energy which is then joyfully embraced by colorful ribbons, symbolic of the beautiful abundance and diversity of our living world.
For this event we will be honoring Beltane and Walpurgis (all sexes welcome!) with a mocktail hour where we will make flower crowns and mingle as the sun sets, ceremony circle + ritual, meditation and shamanic journey, a show with fire dancers, a 5 course vegan feast with sommelier service, sound bath, fire ritual and more!
